Servercentral selects Scality’s RING object storage to power internet video distribution

Next generation storage platform for media content distribution

San Francisco, CA – February 27, 2014 Scality, an established leader in petabyte scale software-defined enterprise class storage based on object technology, announced that servercentral has chosen Scality for its next generation storage platform for media content distribution.

Servercentral is a global provider of Cloud and IT infrastructure solutions. The company sought to offer a next-generation “Origin Delivery” solution by using a commercial, S3-compatible offering that enables its optimized origin servers in a high performance networking infrastructure to stream tens to hundreds of gigabits of content. Servercentral’s system is architected to support the company’s content distribution partners – organizations requiring high scalability, high performance and guaranteed data durability from their origins.

“It was important for us to enable our partners to be able to offload cdns and do some of the core delivery functions from the origin storage systems. We evaluated five different products and chose Scality for this internally developed content delivery system,” said Avi Freedman, CTO of servercentral. “Scality was selected because of its robustness during component failure; its connector architecture, enabling flexibility and scalability; its native file system, which simplified integration; and the inclusion of optional erasure coding, which makes storing long-tail content and media source files cost-efficient.”

Freedman will be discussing servercentral’s Origin server development and the selection of Scality RING at the Next Generation Storage Summit in Los Angeles, March 4 – 5, 2014.
